Irish Census Fragments and Search Forms Now Online

The National Archives of Ireland has placed online two valuable new genealogical resources:

Census fragments, 1821 – 1851 Search the census returns that survived the Four Courts fire of 1922.

Census search forms, 1841 and 1851 As civil registration of births did not begin in Ireland until 1864, many people applying for a pension after 1908 had no official documentation to prove their age. Searches of the 1841 and 1851 census returns were carried out to establish claimants’ ages. You can now search the results of these searches.

These collections relate to around 600,000 individuals. They are an important source of information about Ireland and Irish families in the pre-famine period.
